Lehmann, M.D. is Assistant Professor in Pediatrics and Health Information Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University as well as Director for Clinical Information Technology for the Children's Medical and Surgical Center. After completing a fellowship in Neonatology at the Johns Hopkins University, he joined the faculty in 1998. He has been board-certified in Pediatrics since 1995 and Neonatology since 1999. Dr. Lehmann then completed a two-year fellowship in Applied Medical Informatics supported by a grant from the National Library of Medicine.
Dr. Lehmann is the education chair for SCOCIT at the American Academy of Pediatrics in the fall. He also serves on several AMIA committees. Dr. Lehmann is one of the editors of eNeonatal Review and is one of the founders of Dermatlas (www.dermatlas.org).
Dr. Lehmann's interest and research have focused on issues related to computer assisted medical education as well as improving safety through medical informatics applications. His current work includes the development and evaluation of applications that reduce provider error

When asked why he became involved originally with CME, and why he stays involved, Dr. Lehmann had this to say." My interest in medical education arose from an experience in 1994, when we developed a clinical case simulation for the Internet. I played the role of the patient and any web user could ask the patient natural language questions, examine the patient and submit a diagnosis and treatment plan. The following year I attended a medical informatics conference and was surprised how many people recognized the 'patient' and how much people enjoyed the idea of asynchronous medical education.
Since then, I have been fascinated with the notion of using technology to deliver medical education. I have been involved with the Active Learning Centre (a web based tool that uses databases to generate subject specific multiple choice question), a new iteration of the Interactive Patient, Dermatlas (the largest online dermatology image collection) and the lately with eNeonatalReview (an online and email CME activity that is used by 1/3 of all neonatologists in this country).
I remain fascinated by the enormous potential the development of the WWW has given to medical educators. Materials, that would have been accessible only to a small audience or could have been delivered at a high cost are now ubiquitous, cost efficient and can be tailored to the learner's skill level and may be accessed at the learner's preference."
